Outsourcing giant Capita Group has been waving its cheque book about, announcing two acquisitions two days before Christmas.The company has acquired BSI Holdings for £42.5m on a cash-free, debt-free basis. BSI is a hotel booking and meetings management agency with clients in both the public and private sector. Current clients include Marks & Spencer and easyJet.In the year to 30 June 2010 BSI made an operating profit of £3.9m on turnover of £12.3m."This acquisition will make Capita's business travel offering one of the top five, by size, in the UK business travel market. Post-acquisition the combined businesses will be able to offer a unique and end-to-end travel proposition to our current and future clients. In particular, with central government looking to significantly drive down travel and subsistence costs for public sector workers, we will be in a strong position to help achieve these aims both in terms of greater overall efficiency and reduced unit costs," said Paul Pindar, chief executive of Capita.In a separate announcement the company said it has paid £86m for SunGard Public Sector Holdings (SPS), a supplier of information & communications technology (ICT), radio network services and communication systems to the emergency services and to central and local government.SPS UK's largest clients include police forces and police administrative bodies, local authorities, the Highways Agency and Airwave Solutions.SPS UK made an operating profit for its financial year to 31 December 2009 of £11.7m on turnover of £110.6m."This acquisition takes us into the business of supplying secure information systems to police forces and ambulance trusts, introducing new customers and opening up new markets for the wider Capita Group," Pindar said.
