DOW JONES NEWSWIRES BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) reported it had removed 13,240 total barrels of oil from its leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico in the first 12 hours of Tuesday. The rate of retrieval is on par with other morning half-day rates recently, but it's slightly higher than what was collected in the previous 12 hours. BP said it collected 8,195 barrels of oil and flared 5,045 barrels Tuesday morning. A team of scientists last week estimated about 35,000 to 60,000 barrels are flowing from the broken well every day. The company has been under intense pressure to successfully contain the spewing oil, which began in April when a deepwater drilling rig exploded and sank. The company's repeated failures at a temporary solution to patch the leak heightened scrutiny of its response, and it is still working on a permanent fix to the well. Earlier Tuesday, BP said it would donate the net revenue from selling the collected oil from the well to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, a nonprofit created by Congress in 1984 that works to preserve and restore native U.S. wildlife species and habitats. BP's American depositary shares were down 0.3% at $29.58 in after-hour trading. They have fallen 50% since the spill began. -By Joan E.
