LONDON (Dow Jones)--BP PLC (BP) Sunday outlined new plans to the U.S. Coastguard that will allow it to capture between 40,000 and 50,000 barrels of oil a day from the leaking Gulf of Mexico Well by mid-July, according to a letter from the company seen by Dow Jones Newswires Monday. The plans, which will provide additional vessels and connections that can capture leaking oil, will also enable BP to respond more efficiently to disruptions from possible hurricanes, BP said. BP is currently capturing around 15,000 barrels of oil a day from the leaking well, which is close to the capacity of the current system. The U.S. Coastguard gave the company 48 hours on Friday to come up with a better plan. The government estimates that up to 40,000 barrels of oil a day is leaking from the well.
