(Sharecast News) - Banking giant Barclays has come head-to-head with Tech Nation over whether or not it should be forced to absorb dozens of staff under regulations designed to protect workers when their employer is taken over.

According to Sky News, Barclays insists that it should not be made to take on 48 of Tech Nation's workforce under TUPE regulations set. Tech Nation initiated TUPE discussions with Barclays and informed the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in March 2022.

The not-for-profit industry body was also said to have sought legal advice on the issue, with one source stating that a barrister had confirmed that TUPE applied to Tech Nation's staff.

Barclays said: "Discussions with Tech Nation are still ongoing, so it would not be appropriate for us to comment in detail at this time.

"However, we are keen to work with Tech Nation to explore any suitable opportunities for their employees within the Barclays family."

As of 1335 GMT, Barclays shares were down 1.51% at 186.74p.
