Broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications has received an extension for its EU-funded traffic surveillance SISTER project. The Satellite communications in Support of Transport on European Roads project, known as SISTER, was set up to investigate the application of satellite services to the road transport sector.The extension, worth €0.25m, will enable Avanti and its partners to refine and test new techniques and application developed in the project, the company said.The news follows hot on the heels of Friday's announcement of the award to Avanti of a €663,000, five-year contract with Spain's Satconexion for broadband services on HYLAS 1, Avanti's satellite launching in 2010.
