Broadband services group Avanti Communications has been appointed by East African mobile operator Smart to deliver its IP backhaul services.The UK-based satellite firm will deliver the backhaul services to Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda. Owned by the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, Smart's service is expected to allow operators to keep pace with market growth cost. The group has signed several agreements in the past few months, such as its multi-million dollar contract extension with Avonline broadband, which was announced on May 2nd. The group announced on April it had entered into an agreement with Turkish telecom operator ESER Telekom to deliver its satellite broadband coverage in the Middle East. Chief Executive Officer David Williams said: "We are delighted to be supporting Smart in East Africa. Avanti's quality and flexibility provides the security, resilience and coverage essential to support the data needs of the most demanding operators.As of 09:21 the share price had risen 2.66% to 278.25p.WS
