Aggreko, the temporary power and temperature control solutions provider, has won an $180m contract from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).The BPDB has asked Aggreko to provide an additional 150 megawatts (mw) of emergency power over a three year period to a gas-fired power plant. This 150mw follows the delivery to the BPDB by Aggreko, within 90 days of contract, of 200mw of diesel-powered capacity, which was commissioned in August 2010. The opportunity to supply a gas-fired plant arises following the breakdown of a large gas turbine in Bangladesh, Aggreko said. By using the temporary Aggreko plant, BPDB will minimise the disruption caused by the loss of generating capacity while new permanent capacity is brought on-line. When commissioned, this contract will take Aggreko's generating capacity in Bangladesh to 390mw.
