(Sharecast News) - 4basebio announced the appointment of Dr Jeff Coller to its strategic advisory board on Monday, as the synthetic DNA specialist scales its technology for mRNA synthesis, AAV vector manufacturing and gene editing applications.

The AIM-traded company said Coller, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of RNA Biology and Therapeutics at Johns Hopkins University and inaugural director of the RNA Innovation Center, would bring expertise in mRNA stability and translation to support its strategy for producing high-fidelity DNA templates for genetic medicines.

Chief executive Dr Amy Walker said Coller's discoveries in mRNA stability and translation were "nothing short of transformative for our industry".

Coller said: "The future of mRNA therapeutics hinges entirely on the quality and scalability of the starting materials.

"4basebio has engineered a truly disruptive approach to synthetic DNA manufacturing that eliminates the legacy challenges of plasmid DNA."

At 1315 BST, shares in 4basebio were up 4.29% at 547.5p.
