Week Ahead: Standard Life, Greggs, InterContinental Hotels, TUI Travel

The insurance sector interim results stream continues with figures from Standard Life on Thursday. Panmure Gordon, which thinks Standard Life is in a "period of change" is predicting operating profits of £209m and an interim dividend of 4.6p a share.Baked snacks vendor Greggs has proved resilient through the tough consumer environment of the past few years, helped by its value offering, so it will be interesting to see what it says when it issues interim results on Tuesday. Greggs said in May that it intends to increase efficiency to cope with rising ingredients costs rather than passing them on to customers, perhaps a wise move given the economic deterioration since then.Interims from InterContinental Hotels are also due on Tuesday. Broker UBS is not a big fan of the Holiday Inn owner, which it thinks will only see 1% room growth in 2011.Thomas Cook has been having a thin time of it lately, culminating in the abrupt departure of its chief executive Manny Fontenla Novoa. Turmoil in the Arab world and economic weakness in the UK have been taking its toll on the travel group, so it will be interesting to see what rival TUI Travel has to say when it issues quarterly results and a trading update. Newspaper groups have been struggling recently with the weak advertising outlook seemingly getting worse and this trend is likely to warrant a mention in Trinity Mirror's trading update, particularly at its local papers.. But to spice things up, Trinity Mirror's Sunday Mirror has been seeing sales rise following the ignominious demise of the News of the World.
