UK Coal and Hargreaves Services end merger talks

Britain's biggest coal miner UK Coal and energy sector support services group Hargreaves Services no longer intend to merge, the companies announced this morning.Hargreaves said that 'while recognising that UK Coal has many valuable assets, it does not intend to pursue such a merger.'The companies confirmed that they were in merger talks in March. UK Coal also updated on trading today, announcing the completion of changes at its deep mining business and confirming that new seams at its Kellingley and Thoresby mines are in full production. 'Current rates of production from each of these mines are in line with expectations and the group continues to expect to achieve 2010 production of around 7.6m tonnes in an improving pricing environment,' it said.
