Neela Mukherjee, the UK General Merchandise Director at supermarket chain Tesco, has reportedly quit her role as part of an internal restructuring of the management team. Her departure comes ahead of the retailer's much anticipated annual general meeting this week. According to Sky News, responsibility for general merchandise has been passed over to Tesco's Multichannel Director Robin Terrell. The Telegraph quoted a City analyst as saying Mukherjee's exit was "not surprising". "But the bigger question is, is the ship sinking or not? We have continually seen senior managers leaving, changing, or facing pressure," the same analyst added. "The company is not in good stead right now, and it's certainly not helping itself with the decisions that it is making." Other role changes have included the promotion of Jill Easterbrook, the former head of the health and wellbeing business, to Chief Customer Officer, and Matt Atkinson, previously the Chief Marketing Officer, to Chief Creative Officer.
