Rolls-Royce wins Malaysian air force contract

Aero engine leviathan Rolls-Royce has won a contract to support the Adour engines which power the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (RMAF) fleet of Hawk aircraft.The contract is worth £75m and covers a five year period.‘The Adour has been a hugely successful engine and we believe that there are great opportunities for Rolls-Royce to further improve the support and performance of the installed fleet by partnering with customers like the RMAF to develop innovative solutions,’ said Benjamin Downing, Vice-President of Customer Business at Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace.The contract will cover the overhaul of 26 Adour Mk871 engines, an annual training programme for RMAF engineers and the calibration, maintenance and re-certification of the Adour test-bed at the Kuantan air base.The Rolls-Royce Operations Centre will also make available round the clock support seven days a week.
