Power systems giant Rolls-Royce announced on Monday that it has received its first order for vessels based on its fuel-efficient Environship concept.Norwegian transport firm Nor Lines has ordered two cargo vessels which will incorporate a "striking wave piercing bow, world leading gas powered engines and an innovative Promas propulsion system," the group said. These measures should increase fuel efficiency by up to 18%.Environship also reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 40% and should lead to the elimination of sulphur oxide.Rolls-Royce's Merchant president Merchant Oddbjørn Eliassen said, "The Environship concept is a transformational development for merchant shipping, offering significant reductions in fuel burn and emissions, as well as enhanced performance at sea.BC
