Rolls-Royce wins drilling vessels order

Power systems behemoth Rolls-Royce has won orders worth more than £100m from a range of ship yards in Asia.The company will provide propulsion systems for offshore construction and drilling vessels being built for shop owners that include Sea Drill, Pacific Drilling, Noble, Ocean Rig and Pride.The vessels will carry out drilling operations in deep water oil and gasfields. Each ship will feature multiple thrusters, which will be used to propelthe vessels to and from drill sites and to maintain their position duringdrilling operations."Our in-depth understanding of the demanding offshore industry andour proven technology ensures that our integrated propulsion systems areindustry leading and meet the extraordinary demands placed on them," claimed Anders Almestad, president of Rolls-Royce's Offshore division. --jh
