Rolls-Royce secures $1.5bn engine order

Aero-engine maker Rolls-Royce has secured a $1.5bn engine order to power 20 new Gulf Air aircraft.Trent 700EP engines will power 20 Airbus A330 aircraft, with deliveries beginning in 2012. The contract, signed at the Paris Air Show, includes a TotalCare long-term service agreement. "We are delighted that Gulf Air has selected our Trent 700 technology and TotalCare package to power its new aircraft. Rolls-Royce technology will enable the customer to achieve excellent technical performance and world-class service support," said Phil Harris, Rolls-Royce Senior Vice President Airlines - North Asia and Middle East. Rolls-Royce also announced a number of smaller contract wins. German carrier Condor Airlines has signed a $150m five-year extension to its existing TotalCare long-term services agreement. The deal covers the airline's fleet of Boeing 757s powered by RB211-535E4 engines.The engineer also won a $230m share of an order from Air China for V2500 engines to power a total of 22 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and a $230m share of an order from Qatar Airways for V2500 engines to power a total of 20 Airbus A320 and four A321 aircraft.
