Rolls-Royce gets order for 'wave-piercing' vessel

Rolls-Royce provided a welcome distraction from its aeroplane engine woes today, announcing the first order for its new 'wave-piercing' boat to the Norwegian shipping group Farstad.The contract could be in excess of £12m, Rolls-Royce said, adding that the contract also includes an option for a second vessel of the same specification and value.'Our wave-piercing designs have been specifically developed for the challenging offshore conditions in which our customers operate, and will deliver enhanced safety and performance benefits,' said Rolls-Royce chief design manager Svein Kleven.Rolls-Royce has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons recently amid problems with its Trent 900 plane engines. It said last week that the problems will result in a lower profit than expected in 2010.
