The airline Norwegian has ordered its first set of engines from Rolls-Royce, the engine designer.Norwegian has selected Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000 engines to power nine Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The Trent 1000 has been specifically designed to power Boeing's new Dreamliner aircraft and has been chosen in six out of the seven most recent Dreamliner engine deals."The Trent 1000 has demonstrated world-class fuel burn, and its proven Trent family performance retention delivers this benefit longer through life," said Tore Jenssen, Norwegian's fleet manager.The Norwegian airline has also signed a $450m Rolls-Royce TotalCare long-term engine services contract."This order begins what I firmly believe will be a very strong partnership between Rolls-Royce and Norwegian," said Rolls-Royce's vice president of Customer Business, Dan Pedley.In a separate announcement, Rolls-Royce said that Engine Holding, its 50:50 joint venture with luxury car maker Daimler has officially launched its offer for shares in German engine supplier Tognum.The acceptance period will expire on May 18, 2011 at midnight (local time).
