Supermarket chain Wm Morrison has appointed Andrew Higginson as its new Chairman, he is due to replace Sir Ian Gibson when he retires next year.Higginson, a former Executive Director at Tesco for 15 years, currently chairs the boards of fellow retailers Poundland and N Brown and also stands as Senior Independent Director at TV and broadband group BSkyB.He will join Morrison's board in October as Non-Executive Deputy Chairman and Chairman Elect.Higginson said he is "delighted" to be joining the board of Morrisons, adding: "Whilst there are undoubted challenges in the industry at the moment, this is a fine business and I am looking forward to working with the great team at Morrisons who work hard every day to serve customers."Out-going Chairman Gibson, who joined the board in 2007, announced his intention not to seek re-election in June.In a statement, Gibson said: "Andy Higginson has a tremendous reputation and a distinguished career at the forefront of retailing in the UK and I am sure he will be a huge asset to Morrisons."BC
