Support service firm Mitie Group has bought criminal record checking service UK CRBs from its management for an undisclosed sum.Mitie plans to merge UK CRBs, one of Britain's largest providers of online criminal record checking services, into its existing staff screening product PeopleCert.The group said it would give its total security management business a base to compete in the fast-growing screening and vetting market.It said the deal will enhance criminal record checking capabilities, improve turn-around times, and expand Mitie's technology platform. UKCRBs customers will also benefit from more services and flexibility.The combined business has more than 600 customers in health, financial services, education, communications and local authorities.Mitie Chief Executive Ruby McGregor-Smith said the combination would help it to save money and would allow it to bid for bigger screening and vetting contracts."This acquisition will significantly enhance the services that we offer to our customers," she said. The UK outsourced screening and vetting market is estimated to be worth around £85m per year and growing.PW
