Glencore Xstrata said it had received a number of approaches to buy its interest in Peru's Las Bambas copper mine project as it started the sale process."Glencore Xstrata has received numerous expressions of interest in the Las Bambas project from a diverse group of international mining companies and potential investors," the company said in a statement. The commodities giant announced in April that it was selling the project under the orders of the Chinese government. China's competition regulator required the sale before it approved the merger between Glencore and Xstrata.The interest in Las Bambas was owned by Xstrata before the companies merged. Glencore Xstrata said it had appointed BMO Capital Markets and Credit Suisse Securities to advise on the sale.
