Glencore non-exec stumps up after buyback announcement

After recent results came in slightly ahead of consensus forecasts at Glencore, independent non-executive director Patrice Merrin has dipped into her pocket to buy shares in the company. Merrin bought 40,000 at a price of 361.04p per share, costing her £144,416.Last week Glencore's first-half net income of US$2.0bn beat consensus of $1.95bn. The company also announced a share buyback to the end of March 2015, which should help the shares in coming months.Broker Liberum said it was a "decent result" that had been driven by the marketing business performing as its should and agriculture finally benefitting from the integration of Viterra. Analysts said the "small buyback of $1bn" was less than the market consensus "but at least something".
