German June inflation confirmed at 2.3% as easing continues

(Sharecast News) - German inflation eased further in June, with consumer prices rising 2.3% year on year, the federal statistics office said on Friday, confirming flash estimates and continuing the easing of recent months.

The figure compares with 2.6% in May and 2.9% in April.

"Energy prices continued to increase at an above-average rate as a result of the Iran war and therefore remained a key driver of inflation. However, the rise in energy product prices was less pronounced than in the previous month, which had a dampening effect on the rate of inflation," said statistics office president Ruth Brand.

"The prices of motor fuels and heating oil, in particular, were down compared with May 2026. Consumers also benefitted from the slight month-on-month decrease in food prices," Brand added. Compared with May 2026, overall consumer prices dropped by 0.3% in June 2026."
