Mining companies rallied on Thursday as the prices of metals advanced.Gold rose 2.78% to $1,282.10 per ounce while silver jumped 3.47% to $19.83 per ounce and copper climbed 3.09% to $318.65 per pound. Fresnillo, a silver and gold mining company, was the top riser on the FTSE 100 followed by Vedanta Resources, Randgold Resources, Anglo American, Antofagasta, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.Associated British Foods advanced after it reported strong cash flow supported by growth in sales of its retail business Primark.
