Cairn wells disappoint in Greenland

Edinburgh-based oil and gas titan Cairn Energy has reported disappointing results from its offshore drilling campaign offshore Greenland, with one well coming up dry and another showing only minor hydrocarbons.The Gamma-1 Well in the Eqquar Block reached total depth but the group is now planning to plug and abandon the well after no reservoir or hydrocarbon shows. Furthermore, the Delta-1 Well in the Napariaq Block has so far found several hundred metres of Tertiary volcanic section which is thicker than anticipated, but has only shown "minor hydrocarbon indications"."The full results of the Gamma-1 well and the update from the Delta-1 well will be reviewed in the context of all the data gathered during the Greenland exploration campaign," said chief executive Simon Thomson.Meanwhile, the AT7-1 Well and the Fifth Well on the AT2 Prospect are due to move south to drill the final two wells of the programme on the Atammik Block.BC
