Cairn India has confirmed that it has discovered the first hydrocarbons in Sri Lanka, after drilling its CLPL-Dorado-91H/1z well, the first well to be drilled in the country in three decades.The offshore well, in which Cairn India has a 100% interest, was drilled to a water depth of 1,354m and found a gross 25m hydrocarbon column."Further drilling will be required to establish the commerciality of the discovery," Cairn Energy said.Cairn Energy currently has a 52.11% stake in Cairn India, which will reduce to a 22% interest after the completion of a sale to Vedanta Resources."Cairn is delighted with this frontier exploration discovery, the first well in Cairn India's three well drilling programme in Sri Lanka," said Cairn Energy's chief executive Simon Thomson.BC
