Oil & gas group Cairn Energy has completed its drilling programme in Senegal, though it failed to find oil at deeper targets as hoped.Cairn, which owns a 40% working interest in three blocks off the coast of Senegal, said its joint venture partners have completed operations on the SNE-1 well and plans are now underway to appraise the discovery next year."Having discovered oil in the upper clastic target, no hydrocarbons were subsequently encountered in the deeper target of karstified and fractured Lower Cretaceous shelf carbonates," it said.As such, after the completion of logging operations the well will be plugged and abandoned, it said. The three blocks of Sangomar Deep, Sangomar Offshore and Rufisque cover an area of 7,490km squared and are also owned by ConocoPhillips (35%), FAR (15%) and Senegalese national oil group Petrosen (10%).
