BP: Grateful For 'Constructive' Obama-Cameron Conversation

LONDON (AFP) -- British oil giant BP Plc (BP, BP.LN) said it appreciated the "constructive engagement" Saturday between London and Washington over the fall-out from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. US President Barack Obama told British Prime Minister David Cameron in a phone call that his sharp criticism of BP was "nothing to do with national identity," Downing Street said. Obama "made clear that he had no interest in undermining BP's value," Cameron's office said. In a statement, BP said it looked forward to meeting Obama on Wednesday, with its Swedish chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg hauled in to discuss the biggest environmental disaster in US history. "We appreciate the leadership and constructive engagement of the US and UK governments," BP said. "We look forward to meeting with President Obama to affirm our total commitment to fulfil our obligations in dealing with the tremendous impact of this tragic incident."
