Blinkx announced the launch of Skyrocket Player, a new application which will allow users to view videos directly on their desktop, outside their internet browser.A floating player that can be positioned and resized anywhere on a user's screen, Skyrocket is aimed at those looking to watch a video, without wanting to commit the browser to the search, the company said. The San Francisco-based firm said Skyrocket would allow videos from other online video companies, such as YouTube, as well as using the Blinkx video index. The player will be monetized through media and advertising partnerships, and the company is working on a mobile version of the software."At Blinkx we are always exploring innovative new ways to improve the online video viewing experience and to further our vision of delivering premium video to consumers on any screen, anywhere in the world," said Dan Slivjanovski, senior vice-president and chief marketing officer of Blinkx. "Skyrocket Player, which introduces not only a new portal for users to access online video, but also a far more convenient way to enjoy it at any time, is perfectly in line with our goal to revolutionize the way premium video and advertising is delivered to consumers - by taking it out of the browser entirely."Blinkx shares were up 0.81% to 31p on Thursday at 11:20.DC
