AIM-quoted Bglobal has agreed to supply and install smart meters to customers of Opus Energy. Opus was named as 2010 Independent Energy Supplier of the Year and has fitted more than 14,000 smart meters in its customers' premises. Opus supplies energy to more than 80,000 properties for the UK. International Power supplies power to Opus and is a 30% shareholder. Fully listed Telecom Plus owns another 20% and Opus management holds the rest of the shares. Last week, Bglobal signed an agreement with Korea-based Samsung that will enable it to enter the residential market. Samsung will supply the meters and Bglobal will seek the finance to enable the joint venture to install the meters on a fully funded rental model. Bglobal will install and maintain the meters on behalf of the joint venture. The full details of the technical specifications for smart meters will be announced by the UK government in the spring. The announcement will also include the timescale of the roll out.
