Shares took a bit hit today; but then the whole market didn't look good. Consolidation makes sense, but I don't understand the 'Price Monitoring Extension' that occurred - does anyone know why this happens?

Can anyone explain what the recent sub-division of Lonmin shares means? I don't hold these, but for those that do, has the share price just gone down dramatically, or is it to do with a share-split or consolidation? Thanks!
